TD MyAdvantage Review – Get Up to 25% Off Car Insurance

Today I’m going to talk about my personal experience with the TD MyAdvantage program and how it’s been using the platform for over a year and a half to date.

I have personally participated in the TD Auto Insurance program for almost two years now.

Let me first give you an overview of what exactly the TD MyAdvantage program is. Let’s get started.

What is the TD MyAdvantage program?

If you have been with TD Auto Insurance or if you are considering switching to this program, you are always welcome to try their TD MyAdvantage program. Once registered in the free for all program, you will automatically be entitled to a 5% annual discount on the automobile insurance premium. Now, so far so good.

All you have to do is download the TD MyAdvantage app on your iOS or Android smartphone and drive regularly as you normally do. The app will record your trips in the background and show you the percentage discount you’re entitled to upon renewal.

From what I’ve heard from TD Auto Insurance representatives, you’ll need to first install the app on your phone and have it running at all times while you’re driving. To qualify for the discount, you must drive for at least 120 days in a calendar year and travel 1,000 km using the TD MyAdvantage app.

TD MyAdvantage Rebate

In this section, let’s take a brief look at the features and benefits of the TD MyAdvantage app. What is the app for?

Once you have downloaded the app on your iPhone, go to the app dashboard and you will see three sections at the top of the screen:

1. Recent Badge

2. Average overall rating

3. Projected discount

1. Recent Badge

If you click on the “Recent Badge” icon on the TD MyAdvantage app dashboard screen, the app will go into more detail and show you three more options: Smooth Operator, The Podium and Sign Spotter along with the date you earned them. Now what is it?

These are the rewards that the app gives you (user) once you complete certain driving requirements to achieve safe driving results overtime.

When you click on the badge icon in the app, you will see three different levels: level 1, level 2, and 3. As you drive your vehicle more with the app running in the background, you will eventually reach these levels over a period of time.

I’m currently at level 3 and have been driving with the TD MyAdvantage app for a little over a year. So it’s quite easy to level up and level 3 is the end point. If you are a better driver than me, you will definitely be able to reach levels even faster. This all counts towards the final projected overall discount, that’s what matters.

2. Average overall rating

Depending on the total trips you take using the TD MyAdvantage app in the background, you will see some projected reduction.

All you have to do is click on the “My Trips” icon and you will be able to see all the trips you took on that particular date and a few days before.

Each ride is assigned a certain score based on your driving habits such as speed, turns, acceleration and braking. Based on all of these factors, you will receive a score that will be reflected in your projected annual premium reduction.

3. Projected discount

Now, that’s what matters when auto-renewing.

The TD MyAdvantage app shows you a projected discount at the end of each trip, whether it’s your first trip or your 100th trip. The more trips you take, the more the app shows your projected discount on average.

When you click on “Projected Discount” in the TD MyAdvantage app, this is what you see: first your projected discount percentage, then “Based on the information you have recorded so far, this is the estimated TD MyAdvantage discount that could be applied to your portion of the TD Insurance annual auto premium at renewal.”

Why do I think TD MyAdvantage is a scam?

I’m going to get a little personal here and share my story with the app so far.

I’ve been using the app since late 2018, when I first discovered this program. I received a 5% discount on the annual auto insurance premium, allowing me to download and start using the TD MyAdvantage app.

At first everything seemed good and interesting. Although I wasn’t too happy with the fact that the app drained my iPhone battery. You need to set the location preference for the TD MyAdvantage app to always be allowed and it records virtually every trip you take, whether it’s 1 km or 1,000 km.

At the end of each trip the app shows you a percentage out of 100, as always, the better you score, the more discounts you are entitled to.

I had covered my 1,000 km in the first 6 months of using the app. I called the TD MyAdvantage Tech team in August 2019 and received confirmation that I will be eligible for a 22% discount at renewal. Everything is fine here!

Did I get the discount shown in the TD MyAdvantage app?

Absolutely not! Why did they rob me of my reward?

I don’t have an answer to that. I have since spoken to several agents at TD and still don’t have a definitive answer to this question. All they do is put your call on hold. Talk to a web support team (that’s what they say every time you call and ask for this) then come back and say sorry, you just drove over 600 miles and you don’t qualify for any discounts this year and better luck next time.

My auto renewal will end next month in February, and since they said 600 km, I took it as a challenge by calculating my kilometers on the TD MyAdvantage app and I have clearly done 1000 km now. When I call them now they tell me I have driven 900 km but still won’t be eligible for the discount for this year as my insurance renewal is already processed so better luck for next year. LOL!

If so It’s not a scam, so what is it? Please tell me

I’m really frustrated and totally scammed. I have called TD MyAdvantage maybe 100 times or more about this and no one seems to help me. I just don’t know what else to do.

I’m also pretty sure there are hundreds of people like me facing the same problem. (I’ve also read about this on Reddit and other forums)

Why are you doing this TD? Why are you playing with time and the hearts of innocent people? If you don’t want to give the discount, we better remove the program. Save people time and effort in all this. We too have a life!

Remember: Once you get the 5% discount, you have certain days to download the app and start using it, otherwise you will start receiving reminder emails from TD Auto Insurance to start using the TD MyAdvantage app. If you still don’t download and use the app, you will end up losing the 5% discount immediately.

TD MyAdvantage app not working

Initially, even I face this problem of frequent app crashes and trips not being saved. But the problem was resolved very quickly.

All you have to do is call the TD My Advantage technical support team at 1-866-223-1030. You won’t have to wait long and the representatives on site will guide you through the fixes.

If you have any issues with the app PIN, please contact the phone number above and resolve the issue as soon as possible. Once you get the ball rolling, everything should be fine with the app, these are just the first hiccups.

Last words

If you need the 5% discount if you’re interested, download the TD MyAdvantage program. Try it by driving with the app enabled for 120 days or the first 1,000 miles. Then make sure you can benefit from this discount.

Probably the best thing to do is to install the app and use it for 120 days driving exactly 1,000 miles, confirm this with TD representatives, then uninstall the app to save phone battery.

Otherwise, just abandon the app, save your phone battery which is so crucial in the modern world, and move on.

As I said, this is my personal experience using the TD MyAdvantage app for over a year. I am just being honest and genuine in what I have expressed here.

That’s all my friends, sorry for ranting, stay happy and let me know your thoughts below.

Thank you and goodbye now!
