The CERB has just been extended


The pandemic is still here! We’re not done yet.

Even though the number of new cases is decreasing every day, millions of Canadians are still out of work and struggling to earn money.

As you can see from the graph above, even though the number of unemployed remains quite high, the situation is improving day by day. Now that’s something positive to be thankful for. Hopefully we will all be out of this COVID thing soon.

Next, let’s take a quick look at the status of COVID-19 in Canada and the latest numbers:

That’s what I meant by saying we’re not done with this COVID thing yet. We are still seeing around 400+ new cases every day in Canada.

The CERB has just been extended

First of all, thanks to the Canadian government and Justin Trudeau, you guys are really awesome. They are doing whatever it takes to make sure every Canadian home is safe and healthy.

Below you will find the note on the extension of the CERB from 24 to 28 weeks by the Government of Canada:

4 additional weeks available – The PCU is extended from 24 weeks to 28 weeks for workers who:

  • stopped working due to COVID-19 or

  • are eligible for Employment Insurance regular or sickness benefits or

  • have exhausted their regular Employment Insurance benefits or their Employment Insurance fishing benefits between December 29, 2019 and October 3, 2020.

All of this means that all eligible Canadians can still apply for two additional monthly CERB payments before the new EI program takes effect.
