Habits define who you are, whether good or bad, so why not take a look at the habits of the rich and successful and learn from some of the best in the world?
The difference between an amateur and a professional lies in their habits. An amateur has amateur habits. A professional has professional habits. We can never free ourselves from our habits. But we can replace bad habits with good ones. –Steven Pressfield
There’s a reason why these habits are so popular among successful people. Success does not come from luck or circumstance; it comes from hard work and dedication to good habits.
After a lot of research, I came up with the 10 most common habits of rich and successful people and even implemented them in my own life to discover the true benefits. I hope this article inspires you to do the same.
1. Meditate
What if I told you that you could take a pill and have less stress, better focus, more happiness and better self-awareness.
Would you like to take the pill?
If you shout at your screen “YES! YES!” So I’m sorry but a magic pill like that doesn’t exist. BUT…
If you spend just 10-15 minutes a day meditating, you can reap all the benefits listed above and much more!
“10 to 15 minutes EVERY day? You might be thinking.
Listen to me:
Let’s say you sleep 8 hours a day, which leaves you 960 minutes each day to do whatever you want. If you spend 10 minutes a day meditating every morning, that only represents 1% of your day! I guarantee that 1% will improve the other 99% of your day.
Just check out this article on LiveAndDare: 76 Scientific Benefits of Meditation. Yes, you read correctly, 76 advantages!
I’ve been meditating (almost) every morning for a little over a year now and plan to do so for the rest of my life. In fact, I feel weird if I miss my session one day.
Some examples of people who have successfully talked about meditation are Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Jerry Seinfeld and Ellen DeGeneres.
2. Exercise
Keeping your body healthy is just as important as keeping your mind healthy, which is why regular exercise is such a common habit among the rich and successful.
Mark Cuban, Tim Cook and Richard Branson all agree that regular exercise is an essential part of their daily routine.
For what?
Well, take a look at the benefits of a quick 15-30 minute exercise at the start of your day. You’ll have more energy, better mood, better focus, and that’s just the beginning.

3. Read books
If you want to stimulate your mind and learn from some of the most influential and successful people in history, head to the library!
Here’s what Warren Buffet says about reading:
Read 500 pages every day. This is how knowledge works. It accumulates, like compound interest. You all can do it, but I guarantee few of you will.
You don’t even have to go up to 500 pages per day; I know you live a busy life. Try starting with ten pages per day and work your way up from there. Reading is a skill and you need to practice it continually if you want to get better and faster.
If you want to start reading but don’t know what to read, check out Blinkist, an app that summarizes best-selling nonfiction books into 15-minute reads. You get a free book to read each day that you can finish before you finish eating breakfast!
4. Set goals and create to-do lists
If you don’t know your destination, how will you get there?
The tragedy of life does not lie in not achieving your goal. The tragedy lies in not having goals to achieve. –Benjamin Mays
Writing down goals has been proven to increase the chances of achieving them, so it’s time to start taking advantage of them.
Here’s a simple way to set goals each week and make progress toward them each day:
1. Get a whiteboard, notebook, or just a piece of paper.
2. Write down your top 5 goals for the week.
3. Each evening, create a smaller to-do list by breaking down your weekly goals.
4. Work on these small goals throughout the day.
By creating these weekly goals and breaking them down into smaller, more manageable tasks, you’ll know exactly where your priorities should be each day.
You won’t waste time trying to figure out what you need to do in the morning either, because your to-do list will already be made!
5. Don’t be afraid of failure
Everyone experiences fear, it’s part of being human. Without fear, we would probably have disappeared a long time ago!
However, you should never let fear stop you from pursuing your goals. Many people let fear take too much power over them and end up giving up on their dreams because they are afraid of failure..
This brings us to a mini-lesson: never be afraid of failure. Failure provides some of the best teaching moments and is a necessary step toward success.
Having the courage to face fear and overcome it will be what sets you apart from the competition. On the other hand, if you run away from fear and allow it to control your life, you will have difficulty growing as an individual.
Do you want to increase your fear of tolerance? Go out and do something you’re afraid of every day. It could be something as simple as striking up a conversation with a stranger. I like to take a cold shower every morning because it’s something I never want to do (and it has many benefits too). This makes other challenges I face throughout the day easier to overcome.
As Mark Twain said: “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” »

6. Take risks
All successful people know that there are times in life when you have to take calculated risks..
What is calculated risk? Simply put, this is a carefully considered risk rather than an unforeseen and rushed one.
When you first plan for calculated risk, ask yourself these questions:
-
What’s the worst that could happen?
-
What are the most likely scenarios?
-
What is the best scenario?
Once you’ve answered these questions, all you have to ask yourself are two more questions:
-
If the worst possible scenario occurs, what damage will it cause and what will it take to repair the damage?
-
If the best or most likely scenario comes true, what effect will it have (in your life, on your business, etc.)?
By asking yourself these questions, you will realize that most fears that arise are not that serious. You’ll also realize that the potential positives far outweigh the negatives!
7. Manage your money
If you want to become rich, you will need to learn the valuable skills of financial management. Because if you can’t manage your money now, how can you expect to be able to manage it when you’re rich?
Rich people know that to create more wealth, they need to make their money grow. They rarely spend money on things they don’t need. Try to reduce impulse purchases (looking at your fast food) and focus on what you need rather than what you want. And whatever you do, try at all costs not to get into debt.
If you’re struggling to save, try creating a budget!
Remember, you don’t need to stop doing fun things to save money, just stay reasonable and within your limits.
8. Eat healthy
Look, I love cookies, they’re my favorite. I know I shouldn’t eat ten cookies every day because I’ll probably have a heart attack.
It is important to nourish your body with all the nutrients it needs to thrive, this, in turn, will keep your body and mind healthy and leave you with more energy throughout the day. This energy will significantly increase your productivity and happiness.
Now I know what you may be thinking:
“Healthy food is expensive!”
It’s true ; Unhealthy foods are generally cheaper and more accessible than healthy foods. However, it is possible to eat healthily on a limited budget!
The secret way to eat healthy and save time and money is to plan your meals. You can either make your own meal plans or try a free trial of the $5 Meal Plan – a service that will send you a meal plan and grocery list each week.
9. Hang out with the right people
“You can’t hang around negative people and expect to live a positive life.” – Joel Osteen
This quote is powerful because it makes you look around you and evaluate your relationships and their impact on you. If you hang out with positive, success-minded people, there’s a good chance you’ll adopt the same mindset. These types of people will propel you through life and ensure that you stay on track to achieve your goals.
On the other hand, hanging around negative people who have no ambition or purpose in life will only depress you and prevent you from achieving your goals.
Here’s a little tip you can use to start “dating” some of the richest and most successful people on the planet: read their autobiographies. Business Insider has a great article that lists 11 biographies to read if you want to get rich. Blinkist is also a great tool for this.
10. Don’t give up on your dreams
Last but not least, and perhaps one of the most important habits of the rich, never give up.
This article on Inc.com states that 92% of people fail to achieve their goals. Be the 8% who do it.
Once you have defined your goals and have a clear vision of the future you want to live in, don’t let anything stand in your way.
Last words
If you want to achieve your goals and make your dreams a reality, you’re going to need to develop good habits to help you get there. A good place to start is to examine the habits of the rich and successful.
No matter how motivated you are today, there will always be days when you don’t feel like doing anything. These are the days that truly test our character. You can give in and stay in bed all day, or you can get out of bed, own the day, and take one step closer to achieving your dreams.
